Below are some general Unleashed Awards questions and answers, and further down you’ll find some $20 Boss-specific ones. If the form isn’t functioning how you’d hoped or you want to chat to a team member about something really obscure (that’s also related to the Unleashed Awards) take a squiz at the info down the very bottom.
What are you looking for in the Unleashed Awards?
This year, we really want to focus on celebrating projects, initiatives and businesses that are created, led and run by young people. Check each category description for more info and age eligibility.
Do I have to be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident to be eligible for an Unleashed Award?
The project that I want to nominate has some team members who are over the age of 29. Is that OK?
Totally, as long as the project has been created or is led by young people within the category’s specific age eligibility. The ages of supporting team members is not an issue. Eg. The Jumpstart Award is open to projects led, run or created by 12-18 year olds.
I unleash myself on the dance floor, am I still eligible?
Of course you are, you total legend, but you’re eligible to nominate for these awards as long as you are also part of a youth-led project, initiative or enterprise!
There are multiple people running our project, can we split the prize money?
Sure! We’re happy to split the prize money between team members of the winning project.
Who will you be flying to the Awards ceremony in Melbourne?
For finalists not based in Victoria, we will cover the flights & accommodation for 1 representative from each shortlisted entry (the “finalists”) plus a chaperone if they are under 18, or a friend if they are over 18. If more people are required to (or want to!) travel with the finalist, it will be at their own expense.
Can I come to the awards if I am not a finalist?
It would be an honour to have you! We would love to have all nominators, nominees, and any other cool peeps who are interested to come along to the event. It’s heaps of fun too, so you’d be a fool not to! We’ll post info about submitting an RSVP to the ceremony after nominations close at midnight September 10.
I am under 15 can I nominate my project or another project?
If you are under 15, you will not be able to submit a nomination. Get an adult you trust ie. parents, guardian or teacher to submit the nomination for ya 🙂
When are finalists and Award winners announced?
We will contact all finalists by the September 29 2017. Winners will be announced live on stage at the Awards ceremony in Melbourne on October 19 2017. Woo!
How are the Award winners selected?
The Rookie Enterprise of the Year, Jumpstart, Local Legend, Vanguard and Gamechanger finalists and winners are selected by an FYA judging panel based on the answers provided in the nomination.
The New Work Order Award will be decided upon by a panel of external industry experts.
The Champion of Change Award is decided on by public poll. Follow FYA on Facebook to submit your vote!
The Inspired Citizen Award is only open to participants of the Inspired Citizens program and is not open for public nominations.
What do you mean by “a $20 Boss Participant”?
A young person who participated in the $20 Boss program in 2017. For more info on the program, check it out here!
I participated in $20 Boss. Which awards do you recommend I nominate my project for?
For $20 Boss participants, we recommend looking at the Rookie Enterprise of the Year Awards (Years 7-9 or 10-12 depending on your year level) and the Jumpstart Award. When you start to submit your application, there will be a box to tick to say that you were a $20 Boss participant. This will allow you to answer a number of program-specific questions that will help us in the judging process.
What happens if I participated in $20 Boss this year, but I’m not in Years 7-12?
That’s totally OK! Just choose the award that is closest to your year level! Just don’t forget to check the box that asks if you were a $20 Boss participant and ensure you answer all the program-specific questions too.
What would make a strong nomination?
We are looking for projects that are innovative, have potential to grow, and maybe even make an impact in their community.
Are there any specific $20 Boss awards?
Yes there sure are! The Rookie Enterprise State and Territory Awards are specifically for $20 Boss participants who participated in the program in 2017. We will focus on acknowledging enterprises and ventures in VIC, NSW, QLD, NT, WA, SA, ACT and TAS. To be considered for this award you will need to be nominated for the Rookie Enterprise of Year Award for your respective year group. There will also be Highly Commended Awards to share the love even further.
How do I attach files to my nomination form?
In the $20 Boss participant questions, there will be a link to a Dropbox folder that you can upload files to. You do not need a Dropbox account to do this. Dropbox is a website that allows us to store and share files easily. If you’re having trouble uploading the attachments feel free to contact the $20 Boss team at 03 9760 5436 or email@example.com
What additional files should I include in my nomination?
We recommend documents or images that would support your nomination. You might want to consider sending us your logo, examples of your merchandising, prototypes, budgets, business plans or some social media screenshots. We ask you to limit to three attachments per application. Please label each attachment with your project title and what it is (i.e. Changemaking Enterprises – logo.jpg) so that we can find it easily with your nomination.
I’m still running my business in the “trading period”. Can we still be nominated?
Of course! Have a look at the questions and see if you have enough information to back your nomination.
I’m a teacher and want to nominate my $20 Boss students, can I do that?
Absolutely! We encourage you to consider nominating some of your students and sharing the link with other teachers to get them nominating too. If you are still delivering, or yet to deliver, check out the nomination form to see if your students have progressed enough in their business journey to have enough information to support their nomination.
I have a question that isn’t answered here. What should i do?!
Feel free to call the Unleashed Team on 03 9670 5436 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Can I check out what questions are on the nomination form before I submit it?
Yeah totally! Click on nomination forms to have a gander at the questions before you start to fill it out. We recommend preparing your answers in a word document then pasting them in when you’re ready to roll. The form won’t autosave so we don’t want you to lose all your hard work partway through!
My form isn’t working, what should I do?
Potentially refresh the form or try the form in another web browser. If you’re having any other difficulties with submitting your form please feel free to contact the Unleashed Team and we can figure something out!
I’ve missed the deadline, what should I do?
Unfortunately it’s a strict deadline and we won’t be able to accept any late nominations. We recommend getting your nomination ahead of the deadline just in case.
