Thomas was born in raised in the suburbs of Western Sydney, and has been involved in numerous volunteer and community organisations. Whilst he was working at his part-time retail job during university he had an interaction with a homeless gentleman which changed everything for him.
He has spent that last 2 years developing project ‘CommuniKare’, which is aimed to provide people that are homeless and disadvantaged with better access to mobile phone communication. This was in response to the difficulties faced by people in this community who face numerous difficulties in accessing and using mobile phone communications. The project is aimed to help fix this, and utilise the wide number of benefits that having access to constant communication can bring.
This project has enabled him to be recognised as a ‘Young Social Pioneer’ by FYA in 2015, and as a nominee for NSW/ACT Young Achiever of the Year. The project has recently completed a trial and hopes to develop into a more widely available product in the future.
Thomas is also in his final year of study, completing a double degree in Science and Commerce at Macquarie University. He hopes to use his study of Anthropology and Marketing to further his ability to do more for his wider community.
