Applications are now open for a new program to support projects addressing key issues facing young people across Australia, now and in the future.

The Australian Government Department of Health is partnering with the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) to run the Youth Action Project Grant Scheme (YAPGS), a national youth-recovery grants program.

Available to individuals and organisations, the grants will fall into two categories: new initiatives that uniquely respond to the hardship young people face now and in the future or existing initiatives that provide an ongoing service to young people which require additional funding to adapt or continue their work during the current environment.

Grants of between $5,000 and $20,000 (up to $950k in funding available in total) are being offered to new and existing projects designed to support young people aged 15 to 24 as they navigate employment, mental health, and transportation challenges and recover from the Australian bushfires and COVID-19.

In the current climate, young Australians, their families, and communities are facing unprecedented challenges to their mental health and economic well-being. They are also innovative, adaptable, and want to be part of the solution to challenges facing their communities and their future.

The grants scheme will provide essential support to ensure we are putting young people at the centre of Australia’s recovery – harnessing the energy and lived experience of young people and building their agency, social connection, and strengthening their well-being.

All projects must support young people aged 15 to 24, be non-commercial in nature and conclude by June 18, 2021.

FYA will host two online capacity building summits for successful applicants in January and June 2021, and provide access to weekly capacity building workshops.

Applications for the Youth Action Project Grant Scheme are open until midnight AEST on October 7. For more information and to apply, visit www.fya.org.au/yapgs
