Applications for the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) Young Social Pioneers (YSP) program are officially open, offering young people between 18-29 who are creating change an opportunity to take their concept for social good from ideation to impact.
YSP is on the hunt for social entrepreneurs, innovators, intrapreneurs, academics, creatives, technologists and more to apply for the 2018 cohort. Successful applicants will get the chance to attend a three month program which includes ongoing tailored support, access to a community of other young innovators, industry networking opportunities, a free coworking space, and the chance to pitch for $10k in funding.
With an alumni of nearly 250 changemakers FYA CEO, Jan Owen, said the program is a doorway to a powerful community of like-minded thinkers who back, elevate and connect young people to amplify their impact.
“Australia’s young people are dedicated and driven by a strong sense of purpose, fresh ideas for change, and unfettered, original thinking. They will inherit a political and economic situation that is challenging and fraught with problems, but they will be the ones who create and invent sustainable solutions to these challenges,”
“We need young Australians to be equipped and supported to drive these new innovations and business opportunities for themselves and their communities. This is exactly what YSP aims to do.” Ms Owen said.
Former YSP program participants have included Usman Iftikhar, co-Founder of Catalysr; Elliot Costello, co-Founder of YGAP; Edda Hamar, Founder of Undress Runways; Madeleine Buchner, Founder of Little Dreamers Australia; Taj Pabari, Founder of Fiftysix Creations; plus many more.
2016 YSP alumni Rita Nehme says “One of the biggest takeaways from YSP was the community of passionate and likeminded people that I became a part of. It’s not every day you find yourself in a room with 59 other young people sharing ideas, learning from each other and building meaningful connections. Some of my closest friends are people I have met through the program.”
The 2018 YSP streams include: Environmental Sustainability, Cities & Placemaking, Health, Youth Mental Health, Education, Arts, Asia Focus, Indigenous Focus and an Open stream for a limitless range of causes and issues that young people want to address.
