School’s First inaugural conference

The inaugural School’s First National Conference will take place Friday 19th March 2010 at 8.30am in Melbourne. The conference will give anyone interested a chance to explore the potential of school and community partnerships.

Guest speakers will include Professor Geoff Masters, CEO, Australian Council for Educational Research; Steve Bracks, Former Premier of Victoria;Adam Smith, CEO, The Foundation for Young Australians; Louise Bye, Assistant Director, Aboriginal Education & Training, NSW DET; and Peter Clayden, Deputy Principal, Canberra College – 2009 Schools First National Impact Award winner.

This inaugural national conference will bring together key education stakeholders in the school and tertiary sectors, community sector representatives, industry leaders and government officials to explore what is being done in school-community partnerships, what could be done to build and sustain these partnerships, and the role that each sector can play in contributing to educational reform though partnering.

During the conference, Professor Geoff Masters will launch the Schools First 2009 Public Report.

A panel facilitated by Jenny Brockie, host of Insight on SBS, and featuring educational and industry leaders will explore the benefits of, and issues associated with, creating strong and sustainable partnerships.
