Back to School NT
Back to School is a national campaign that celebrates public education, and connects schools with their communities and former students. It provides a vehicle for community role models to go ‘back to school’ as guest speakers and inspire current students.
The Foundation for Young Australians launched the annual Back to School campaign nearly ten years ago to raise awareness of the value of our schools, and demonstrate the many exciting pathways that stem from our public education system.
In 2009, over 1,000 schools (nearly 15% of all public schools, including 19 schools in NT) registered to take part in Back to School. High-profile celebrity spokespeople, including Lisa Wilkinson (co-host of the Nine Networks’ TODAY show) and David Wirrapanda (former AFL player) returned to school to speak to current students about their time at school and the pathways they followed.
In 2011, a partnership between FYA and the NT Department of Education sees Back to School being highlighted in the Northern Territory. We want all Territory schools to get involved with this fantastic initiative!
